Client Research

Ilana's research at NORC covers two primary topics: (1) Survey data collection in Latino and other hard-to-reach populations and (2) Families, children and care.  Ilana is an expert in survey data collection, bilingual survey research, disclosure protection, and creating datasets for public usage.

The objective of this line of research is to provide insights to recruit and improve retention of Hispanic, Latino, and Spanish speaking populations into probability-based representative samples. Since beginning this research in 2016, my team has run four field experiments to improve recruitment and retention of the Hispanic and Latino population for the AmeriSpeak® Panel.

AmeriSpeak is a nationally representative panel of U.S. adults, which provides sample coverage for over 97 percent of U.S. households and includes additional coverage of hard-to-survey population segments, such as rural, low-income, and Hispanic households. English and Spanish languages are supported for online, telephone, and in-person recruitment, as well as in client surveys.

The National Survey of Early Care and Education (NSECE) is a nationally representative study that documents the use and availability of child care and early education (CCEE) across the United States. The NSECE is funded by the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation (OPRE) in the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

As part of the NSECE team at NORC, I work on data collection efforts, variable creation and data dissemination, as well as analytic efforts.
